Zachary Segall: What I'm trying to do—really as a Changemaker Captain—is build community. Because The Humane League gets a lot of our power and our efficacy from our digital campaigns and our ability to do in-person protests and demonstrate to companies that people really care. And in order to do that, you need people. And the best way to bring people together is through community.
So a lot of it has been hosting consistent events. We have a monthly actions meet up. We've had a volunteer putting on a series of summer socials where we meet up, have happy hours, hang out, get to know each other.
My role as a captain is just creating a space for people to come and make connections and encouraging people to take leadership roles in that community. It's kind of been amazing to me how much of a difference that I've been able to make as just a volunteer who, you know, shows up consistently and creates a space for other volunteers to show up consistently.
