About The Humane League
We are a global nonprofit ending the abuse of animals raised for food.
Learn MoreThe Humane League Labs informs the organization's evidence-driven approach to farm animal advocacy and communication through scientific research.
Labs was founded in 2013 by board members of The Humane League to fill the need for research to support the entire animal advocacy movement. The department was run independently of THL by an interdisciplinary group of researchers investigating the many facets of animal advocacy. During this time, Labs conducted some of the first empirical studies on animal advocacy strategy and tactics. Staff were also involved in efforts to grow the animal advocacy research community, both within other non-profits and in academia. With the successful growth of this community, in 2021, Labs made a strategic shift to narrow its focus to research relating to The Humane League and its programs, such as the cage-free and Better Chicken Commitment campaigns.
Labs research aims to understand important questions using rigourously collected empirical evidence. As this mission is best served through transparency, we are firmly committed to open science and provide all of our data, materials and reports publicly to the fullest extent possible.
Whenever possible for our studies, we indicate the availability of the data, materials, and a preregistration with the Center for Open Science badges:
