After months of controversy for the retailer, Food Lion seemingly refuses to do better for suffering animals in its supply chain.

Customers have been calling on Food Lion to honor its commitment to spare egg-laying hens from battery cages.
But instead of responding to demand on its social media pages, Food Lion seems to have taken the cowardly route by deleting and hiding comments.
On Food Lion’s Instagram and Facebook, there’s a discrepancy between the displayed amount of comments on its posts, and which are actually visible to the public.
Meanwhile, Food Lion’s sister brands—Giant, Giant Food, and Stop & Shop—seem to have refrained from censoring its customers. (All brands belong to parent company Ahold Delhaize.) Ahold Delhaize made a 100% cage-free egg sourcing policy almost a decade ago, but has failed to show any public sign of progress that it’s honoring its commitment.
And as much as Food Lion tries to ignore customers holding the retailer accountable to its cage-free promise, it can’t hide everything—including a billboard near its headquarters, a protest, and other signs that cruel cages are on their way out.
Customers have protested at Stop & Shop, Giant Food, and Giant to fight for the animals Ahold Delhaize and its brands refuse to publicly acknowledge—and plan to continue doing so until the retailer shows meaningful action on its commitment.
