Thanks to accountability guidance from Open Wing Alliance, RBI is prioritizing animal welfare across its global supply chain which includes over 29,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.
(New York, NY - January 11, 2023) — Today, the Open Wing Alliance (OWA), an international coalition working to end the abuse of chickens worldwide, announced a significant milestone around its animal welfare accountability work with Restaurant Brands International (RBI), one of the top 10 largest restaurant groups in the world by revenue — with over 29,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries — and parent company of Burger King, Tim Hortons, and Popeyes. In a recent update to its animal welfare policy, RBI began publicly reporting its progress towards cage-free egg sourcing and remains committed to reaching 100% cage-free globally by 2030.
“By prioritizing transparency and accountability in its cage-free reporting, RBI demonstrates its dedication to setting a new standard for global animal welfare, ” said Hannah Surowinski, Global Corporate Relations Coordinator at OWA. “We anticipate this will inspire others to follow in RBI’s footsteps, specifically Focus Brands, Inspire Brands, Costa Coffee who have yet to start publicly reporting their global cage-free egg progress.”
RBI is now the largest restaurant group to publicly report its global progress on its transition to cage-free eggs. The OWA encourages other companies to follow suit in reporting cage-free egg progress and, as an example, highlights Famous Brands, Africa’s leading branded food services franchisor, which has already achieved its goal of using 100% cage-free eggs, three years ahead of schedule.
