The Charitable Gift Annuity: A gift that pays you back!
A charitable gift annuity helps you support The Humane League while providing you and/or a loved one steady income for life. The Humane League works with our trusted partner, the National Gift Annuity Foundation (NGAF) to offer this win-win option to donors in all 50 U.S. states.
With a charitable gift annuity, you can make a meaningful gift to protect farmed animals while also receiving guaranteed income for life. You contribute cash, securities, or other assets, and in return, one or two people you choose receive fixed payments—starting right away, or at a future date. When the annuity ends, the remaining funds fuel our vital work to end the abuse of farmed animals.
Here's how it works:
- Age requirement: Each beneficiary must be age 55 or older when payments begin.
- Funding options: Cash, appreciated securities, illiquid assets (with approval), or one-time Qualified Charitable Distribution from an IRA, up to $54,000 (age 70 ½ and older only; $108,000 limit for married couples)
- Minimum gift: $20,000
- Payment rates: Based on the age of the annuitant(s) and remain fixed. Current rates for a single-life annuity range from 4.8% to 10.1%
- Benefits: Immediate tax deduction (unless funded with QCD), partially tax-free income, potential capital gains tax savings
- Ideal for: Donors seeking additional retirement funds or younger donors who want to provide income for older family or loved ones while receiving tax benefits
