The grocery retailer received a special delivery from unhappy customers.

Tens of thousands of people recently voiced their unhappiness with grocery retailer Stop & Shop.
The Humane League and Lady Freethinker worked together to ask Ahold Delhaize—the parent company of Stop & Shop, Food Lion, Giant Food, and The Giant Company—to fulfill its 100% cage-free egg commitment for all of its brands.
Ahold and its brands made a promise almost a decade ago to spare egg-laying hens in their supply chains from life in a battery cage, and failed to publicly honor it.
In response, customers protested at Stop & Shop’s headquarters in Quincy, MA, passed out leaflets, and dropped off boxes of over 30,000 petition signatures. At one point, Stop & Shop employees were using binoculars to observe the protest from their office floors.
Binoculars or not, it’s easy to see that customer demand for higher animal welfare standards is here to stay—and it’s a message worth sharing in-person, onscreen, in lights, on recognized holidays, in the media, on industry holidays, in grocery aisles, on a billboard, and even in the sky.
