Your Voices Force a Historic Reversal in Washington
Your actions pushed a lead Senator to back down from a major anti-animal bill.
Your actions pushed a lead Senator to back down from a major anti-animal bill.

Your voices just achieved the unthinkable in Washington.
At the end of April, the House passed a version of the Farm Bill that includes a provision that threatens to wipe out critical state laws protecting animals raised for food. This harmful language—known as the “Save Our Bacon” Act (SOBA) and a rebranded version of the ”Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression” (EATS) Act—would override historic protections like California’s Proposition 12 and Massachusetts’ Question 3.
We all share a fundamental belief: cruelty shouldn’t exist. We also believe that giant corporations shouldn’t hide how they treat animals, and corporate greed should never dictate public policy.
Now, the Senate is writing its own version of the Farm Bill, working independently of the House. This gives us a massive opportunity to keep dangerous anti-animal provisions like SOBA out of the final text.
And because of your incredible dedication, we are seeing positive signs.
A historic shift in the Senate
In a stunning turn of events, Republican Kansas Senator Roger Marshall officially withdrew his name as the lead sponsor of his most recent version of SOBA on June 10, 2026.
This is a massive deal. Politicians almost never reverse course on sponsorship, and it is even rarer for a lead sponsor to step down. This historic reversal happened because of you.
Your phone calls and emails flooded his office. Our movement’s power forced a staunch opponent to back down. You proved that your choices inspire change and make a real impact.
While we celebrate this major step forward, the battle is far from over. This is a rapidly changing effort, and it is a true all-hands-on-deck moment.
Local advocate groups across the country—including Animal Policy Alliance teams in Minnesota, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico—are leading an intense ground game. Together, we are fighting to keep any version of the EATS Acts entirely out of the Senate’s draft, which is expected to drop sometime in June or early July.
Defending these state laws in Congress is our most important policy fight right now, full stop.
Will you join this vital fight today? Contact your legislators right now and tell them to keep anti-animal language out of the upcoming Farm Bill.
