Advocates rallied in New Orleans, urging Best Western to finally deliver on its promise to spare hens from horrific cages. Here’s how your voice can help turn up the pressure.

Best Western has long promised guests a reliable stay.

But this June, the company’s silence on a different kind of promise sparked three days of action in New Orleans. Supporters filled the streets outside Best Western hotels—calling on the global hospitality giant to finally share its progress toward sparing hens from the agony of caged confinement.

Three days, three hotels, one message

From June 10–12, protestors gathered outside iconic New Orleans Best Western locations—including the Best Western Plus French Quarter, Blake’s Hotel (BW Signature Collection), and the St. Christopher Hotel. Their message couldn’t be clearer: It’s time for Best Western to stop hiding, and start reporting, on the fate of more than 319,000 hens in its egg supply chain.

Why does this matter? In 2019, Best Western pledged to phase out eggs from caged hens by the end of 2025. But with the deadline looming, the company has kept customers—and the public—in the dark about its progress, even as direct competitors like Hilton and Accor publish detailed updates. Meanwhile, Best Western continues to use nearly 90 million eggs each year, with no accountability for the living, feeling beings behind those numbers.

Your voice matters—now more than ever

Shortly after the New Orleans protests began—and just one day after the campaign launched—Best Western issued a partial update on its cage-free egg promise. But the numbers were vague, covering only North America and Europe, with no transparency for the rest of the world. This isn’t what real progress looks like. We made it clear to Best Western that a few selective figures won’t cut it. Guests, communities, and animals deserve the full story: comprehensive updates for every region, and a clear plan to bridge gaps in supply.

And here’s what’s truly powerful: the spark ignited in New Orleans has inspired actions across four continents, with supporters staging additional protests and on-the-ground events worldwide. This growing movement is proof that when we demand transparency and compassion, we’re not alone—and companies are forced to listen.

A global movement for a world with less cruelty

What unites advocates, travelers, and animal lovers—regardless of diet or background—is the belief that cruelty isn’t necessary, and that corporations should do better. No one wants to support a company hiding the truth about how animals are treated. The call is simple: Best Western, show us you’re keeping your word everywhere.

With nearly 100 organizations in the Open Wing Alliance working to end the abuse of chickens worldwide, and thousands of supporters lending their voice, these protests are part of a global push for a more compassionate future. Companies everywhere are responding to this groundswell—because when enough people speak up, the status quo shifts.
