Food manufacturing powerhouse Conagra Brands has fulfilled its commitment to eliminate cruel cages from its egg supply chain—achieving its goal a full year ahead of schedule. The company behind household names like Healthy Choice, Marie Callender’s, Bertolli, Earth Balance, Log Cabin, Gardein, and Banquet now sources 100% of its eggs from suppliers who spare hens from life in tiny cages.

This victory means countless hens will never know the misery of confinement in a space so small they can’t even spread their wings. It’s also proof that major corporations can—and should—do better for animals.

But Conagra isn’t stopping there. The company is pursuing an innovative dual strategy: not only transitioning to cage-free eggs but also exploring ways to reduce or eliminate eggs from some products through reformulation and alternatives. This approach demonstrates how companies can embrace change on multiple fronts to spare animals from suffering.

As one of America’s largest food manufacturers, with 73% of its ingredients already plant-based, Conagra’s progress sends a powerful message to the rest of the industry: the future of food is more compassionate. Their accelerated timeline—moving up their original 2025 deadline to 2024—shows how companies can turn promises into real change for animals when they make it a priority.

This achievement comes at a critical moment, as we enter the second half of 2025 and hundreds of food companies face deadlines to fulfill their own promises to eliminate cruel cages. Conagra’s progress proves that these deadlines are achievable—and that there’s no excuse for delay.

The company’s transparent reporting and clear benchmarks also set an example for how corporations should communicate their progress. By sharing detailed updates about their transition, Conagra helps ensure that commitments to animals translate into meaningful change.

This is how progress happens—when major companies step up, follow through on their promises, and explore innovative ways to reduce animal suffering. As consumers increasingly demand transparency and compassion from food manufacturers, Conagra’s achievement shows how corporate leaders can rise to meet these expectations.

Want to help create more progress for animals? Take action today to demand other major food companies fulfill their promises to end cruel cages.
