(New York, NY - April 24, 2023) — Today, the Open Wing Alliance (OWA), an international coalition working to end the abuse of chickens worldwide, announces Kellogg’s — one of the top 25 global manufacturers by revenue — has published its commitment to using 100% cage-free eggs globally by 2025. Kellogg's statement indicates that it will provide updates on its progress towards this goal and reduce its reliance on eggs as an ingredient as it shifts its focus towards plant-based products.

“The recent commitments made by Kellogg's and PepsiCo towards achieving 100% cage-free eggs by 2025 are a significant advancement in putting an end to one of the most severe forms of animal abuse on a global scale,” said Caitlin Campbell, Global Campaigns Coordinator. “By adopting transparent animal welfare policies, food companies can demonstrate their commitment to responsible and ethical practices and build customer trust. Failure to do so risks losing consumer trust and damaging their reputation in the market."

Cages subject egg-laying hens to cruelty that consumers increasingly refuse to support. The manufacturing sector recognizes this value shift as more than 2,400 companies — including 146 of the largest global corporations — have made cage-free egg commitments, and one-third of those companies are manufacturers.
