From December 9th through the end of the year, Academics Against Factory Farming will be supporting The Humane League. Here’s how you can get your school involved.

Two years ago, Philosophers Against Factory Farming successfully raised roughly $50,000 to help The Humane League (THL) fight back against the suffering of animals on factory farms. This year, we’re revamping the fundraiser and calling it Academics Against Factory Farming—a campaign spearheaded by students, for students.

As a Changemaker Captain at The Humane League, as well as a graduate student and Vice President of the Effective Altruism group at the University of Michigan, I believe that organizations like THL are an essential force in creating social and institutional change that can improve the lives of sentient animals in factory farms around the world. For the last three weeks of the decade, we encourage you to get involved in Academics Against Factory Farming to end the abuse of animals raised for food.

Why is Academics Against Factory Farming raising money for The Humane League?

As you know, The Humane League has done some great work for animals raised in factory farms, and the additional support from Academics Against Factory Farming can only take the movement further. With your help, THL pledges to continue holding corporations accountable. They are working to influence the world’s biggest companies to create and implement animal welfare policies that abolish the worst forms of abuse and reduce the suffering of billions of animals.

This December, we are working with THL to educate individuals on the horrifying ways in which animals are treated on factory farms, empowering people to take action through activism, and by leaving animals off their plates.

How can I get involved in this campaign?

Are you in college or attending a university? Do you care deeply about the well-being of animals raised for food? Then you are encouraged to join!

Anyone affiliated with a college or university is welcome to participate, including students of all levels, faculty, and staff. Schools will be participating in some friendly competition against one another for the coveted title of “Top Fundraising Team,” so be sure to participate (and get your friends involved) to rep your university!

Don’t particularly feel an affinity for your school or university, but still want to participate? We welcome you to donate in support of the Wild Card team!

What will I do with this campaign?

On the campaign website, you’ll see teams associated with specific schools. It’s simple. You can donate directly to your school’s team, or start a team for your school if it hasn’t already been created!

All donations made between now and the end of the year will be matched, meaning every dollar you donate on behalf of your school with go even further toward fighting for the lives of animals in need.

This campaign launches on December 9th and will run through the end of 2019. I hope you get involved in this campaign and help us create a future of compassion and concern for those who are suffering and are in need of our help!
